PRESIDENT'S MONTHLY BOARD REPORT- MAY 2017

 

President Frank Chong gave the following President's report at the April 11, 2017 Board meeting: 
 
  • He thanked AFA for sharing their concerns and said that he takes them very seriously. He met with senior leadership to discuss the matters brought up by AFA and plans to follow up with the union soon. He said that he plans to restructure the President's Staff meeting to include the presidents and vice presidents of all constituent groups in order to start a meaningful dialogue with all consitutent groups to address the challenges and opportunities at the college. More information about that restructuring will be sent out soon. He stressed that he is committed to working collaboratively with all constituent groups.
  • On May 10 he is going to Sacramento to meet with the California Department of Finance and with Senator Mike McGuire in order to appeal for the state to release Proposition 51 funds for the SRJC STEM building. 
  • He thanked everyone who contributed to the planning and set up for Day Under the Oaks on May 7, which was a a major success. The Press Democrat covered the event, which hosted over 7,000 participants. 
  • He spoke on PLAs, thanking Keith Woods and Jack Buckhorn for their advocacy. He plans to bring an administrative recommendation on this matter to the Board on June 13. He hopes that he hopes to find a good resolution to this difficult public policy matter.
