President Chong gave the following report to the Board of Trustees at their April 12, 2016 meeting:

• Last week he attended the Hall of Fame Dinner put on by the Bear Cubs Athletic Trust. He thanked Trustees Call, Lindley and Edgar for attending this event, which had over 300 attendees.
• He attended the Burbank Fundraiser at the Luther Burbank Center for the Arts. He thanked Dean, Arts and Humanities Anna Szabados for the invite, as she is on the Board of Directors there.
• He is drafting a letter in cooperation with Vice President, Finance and Administrative Services Doug Roberts and Trustee Burns to California elected officials, advocating for more funding for community colleges.
• The Citizens' Bond Oversight Committe (CBOC) met for its quarterly meeting. This is a group of volunteers tasked making sure Measure A and Measure H dollars are spent properly.
• SGA is working to develop a ballot initiative to consider a way to subsidize transportation for students. He thanked SGA President Josh Pinaula and the rest of SGA for their work in this area.
• He attended a meeting of Umoja, attended by the statewide leader Karen Kincaid. He thanked Assistant Director, Student Affairs Dean Tahir, Counselor Jesekah Loggins and faculty member Michael Hale for their support and work with Umoja.
• He announced Day Under the Oaks (DUO) on May 1 and thanked former Student Trustee Ian Mauer as well as Dean, Student Affairs Robert Ethington and Director, Communications and Marketing Ellen Maremont Silver for their work on DUO.
• He spoke to Melissa Debret's comments on sexual assault on campus, saying that everyone at SRJC takes this matter very seriously. Dean, Student Conduct/Disable Student Programs and Services Patie Wegman has been working hard to ensure that programs are available for students that have experienced trauma. He said that he has also attended several Feminist United events and is dedicated to working collaboratively with students.
• He said that it's important to engage in conversations on the student homelessness issue in order to develop a thoughtful response and plan to help these students. Housing affordability is a major issue in Sonoma County and many people are being displaced.
• He met with the President's Advisory on LGBTQ matters and thanked them for keeping him informed. He thanked Dean, Student Services, Petaluma Matthew Long for his work as the committee liaison. He stressed the importance of continuing to commit to welcoming and being an accessible community. It's not just about diversity, it's really about equity.
