PRESIDENT'S MONTHLY BOARD REPORT- DECEMBER 2016

President Chong gave the following report to the Board of Trustees at their Dec. 13, 2016 meeting:

  • He congratulated Trustees Lindley and Edgar on their reelections.
  • He welcomed incoming Trustee Mariana Martinez.
  • He thanked former Trustee Rick Call for 24 years of exemplary service. Rick received a standing ovation from the audience.
  • Former Trustee Call will be serving as honorary chair person on 100th Anniversary Committee. 
  • Dr. Chong signed a petition originating from Pomona College in support of open access for DACA and Dreamer students. He also commended the Chancellor's Office for sending out a Statement of Values, which is a system-wide approach to addressing the concerns that many have had following the recent election. He said that he believes that all areas of the District will be able to come together to support and protect our students. 
  • He met with filmmaker Don Cambou, who made the recent documentary on Santa Rosa, which SRJC will be showing with the local historical society.
  • He attended the Student Research Conference in Petaluma.
  • He met with Sue Conley, the founder of cowgirl creamery, who wants to establish an artisan cheese program at SRJC.
  • He attended the CCLC Annual Convention in October and sat on a panel with California Classified Senate President Debbie Weatherly, where they discussed the importance of Classified employees role in achieving student success. 
  • He finished by welcoming the incoming Vice President, Student Services, Pedro Avila.
